Emotion regulation is a natural process and we actually engage in it all the time.

It is possible to up regulate and down regulate our emotions. 

Up-regulation is when we do or think something to make us feel better, like having a hug.

Down-regulating an emotion is when we do or think something that causes to feel worse like reading a sad book.
